Meet Our Staff

Joseph Sheris, Ph.D., NCC, CCMHC

Licensed Psychologist

Dr. Sheris is a Pennsylvania Licensed Psychologist since 1994 and one of the founding partners of Psychological Associates of Schuylkill County, LLC. He is Board Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Board Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC) through the National Board of Certified Counselor. Additionally, he has specialty certifications as a Parenting Coordinator and Custody Evaluator with the Professional Academy of Custody Evaluators. He also earned clinical certification in the treatment of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder from the International Association of Trauma Professionals, and he is trained in EMDR and related trauma therapies.

Dr. Sheris provides clinical assessments and psychological evaluations in several areas. He conducts comprehensive evaluations for the Courts in custody matters. In addition, he conducts comprehensive diagnostic assessment for children and adults for attention disorders, learning problems, trauma, and other clinical areas. Additionally, he completes psychological evaluations for police, employment, bariatric surgery, and other medical needs. He provides individual treatment to children and adults in the treatment of depression, anxiety, and trauma.

In addition to the treatment of victims of assault and trauma, Dr. Sheris has extensive training and experience in treatment and assessment of sexual offenders. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Sex Offender Assessment Board and conducts evaluations for the courts in several counties.

Dr. Sheris earned his Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology from Northcentral University and a Master’s of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Kutztown University. He did his undergraduate work at Pennsylvania State University. He is a lifelong resident of this county and he has chosen to continue to serve the residents of Schuylkill and surrounding counties.

Kelly Reno, DSW, MSW, LCSW

Kelly Reno is a licensed clinical social worker, who has been in private practice at Psychological Associates of Schuylkill County, LLC since 2007. This current position is the culmination of more than twenty years in the field of social work.

While capable of addressing most forms of psychological and social issues, particular areas of interest for Kelly are grief, loss and bereavement, aging and caregiving issues and health related issues.

Prior experience in the home health and hospice and aging fields have assisted Kelly with honing skills with a variety of client issues.

Ms. Reno is licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors (2005). She is a current member of the National Association of Social Workers and the American Academy of Bereavement.

Ms. Reno her Bachelors of Arts in Social Work from Alvernia University, her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Temple University and her Doctorate of Social Work from Capella University. She is also a Clinical Certified Trauma Professional (CCTP). In addition, she continues to actively obtain continuing education and has remained current in the field of social work and mental health.

Denise L. Whalen MA, NCC, LPC

Denise has been practicing in the field of Counseling Psychology since 1991. She received her BSoSc from Penn State University, her MA in Counseling Psychology, completed a certification program in Structural Family Therapy from the Philadelphia Child Guidance Center, and has trained extensively in the field of Play Therapy.

Denise has worked in the following clinical settings: Community Mental Health, Adult Partial Hospitalization, Inpatient and Outpatient. Additionally, Denise has taught as a part-time faculty member at Penn State and Alvernia Universities since 1998. Denise also provides trainings for local Mental Health Professionals though the Laurel Training Institute.

Denise has volunteered on the PA Association for Play Therapy board of directors, and was elected to the position of president. She is actively involved in numerous community organizations.

Denise is licensed as a Professional Counselor by the state of Pennsylvania, and is a National Board Certified Counselor. Her areas of specialization include working with children, families, and marital therapy.

Dana Sukeena, MSW, LCSW

Dana Sukeena is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She has been in the field for 23 years. Dana obtained her undergraduate degree from Penn State University and her Graduate degree from Temple University; a Master’s Degree in Social Work. She believes that the biggest indicator of change is developing a genuine relationship and connectedness with her clients. Dana’s primary treatment modality is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but she draws upon other modalities as well.

Dana has a broad background of experience to include; 12 years of addictions counseling, trauma counseling, community mental health counseling, school social worker and 7 years of Private Practice. In addition to private practice, she is the Campus Counselor at Penn State University-Hazleton Campus. “I believe people have their own answers, my role is to help them find those answers”.

Christianne Bayer, Ed.D., NCC, LPC

Dr. Christianne Bayer is a licensed professional counselor and employee of Psychological Associates of Schuylkill County, LLC. Dr. Bayer received her education from Penn State University as an undergraduate, earning a B.S Degree in Psychology. She later completed her studies at Kutztown University earning a M.A. Degree in Counseling Psychology. She most recently earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Immaculata University in 2012.

Dr. Bayer has been providing treatment services to individuals and families since 1991. She has been primarily concentrating her services in the adolescent population and has worked in an adolescent partial hospitalization and day treatment program with adolescents and their families since 1991. Furthermore, Dr. Bayer has experience with treating a variety of childhood/adolescent disorders, and providing support/services to their families.

Dr. Bayer also has experience with psychological assessments, primarily with adolescents being evaluated for Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services (BHRS). She has completed this training with a licensed psychologist through a private practice. Christianne has also provided therapy services to individuals, families and couples in a private practice setting since 2002.

Dr. Bayer is licensed as a Professional Counselor by the Pennsylvania State Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs (2002), and is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board of Certified Counselors.

Lori Chaplick MA, MS, NCC, LPC

Lori Chaplick is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Board Certified Counselor (NCC). Her approach is individualized, strength based and holistic. Mindfulness and hypnotherapy are areas of interest along with treatment of anxiety, depression, anger management and stress management. Supportive counseling empowers clients to move through life changes at their own pace and increase resilience and coping skills.

Ms. Chaplick has been a therapist since 2011. Her counseling experience is in private practice, outpatient mental health and drug and alcohol counseling. She has an 18 year background in the criminal justice field and experience collaborating with various human service agencies.

Ms. Chaplick graduated from Shippensburg University with a Masters Degree in Administration of Justice (1997) and Alvernia University (2011) with a Masters Degree in Community Counseling. Ms. Chaplick is licensed as a professional counselor through the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors (2015) and board certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors (2016).

Jan Remer-Osborn, Ph.D., LP

Jan Remer-Osborn, PhD is a Pennsylvania Licensed Psychologist who has formal training and over 25 years’ experience in neuropsychology and psychological evaluations and treatment.

Dr. Remer-Osborn received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology which specialized in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. She completed her internship at the University of Chicago Medical School and neuropsychology residency at the Rehabilitation Medicine Clinic affiliated with Marianjoy Hospitals and Clinics.

Dr. Remer-Osborn has provided psychological and neuropsychological services through a variety of hospital-based psychiatry and trauma departments, and independent practices. Most notable was her tenure at The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Brain Injury Program, considered the premiere rehabilitation center in the United States. Dr. Remer-Osborn also held a position as an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Rehabilitation at Northwestern Medical School. She has experience working with diverse patient populations (psychiatric disorders, including trauma and PTSD, neurological conditions, learning disabilities, medical problems, dementia) ages eight and older.

Keith Semerod, LCSW

Keith D. Semerod is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) who joined Psychological Associates of Schuylkill County in 2019 as a therapist working primarily with adults. Keith began his career in human services in 1978 working in community-based outpatient mental health services after completing his BS in Individual and Family Studies at Pennsylvania State University. Semerod graduated from Marywood University in 1987 with a Master of Social Work degree and became licensed as a clinical social worker by the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Profession al Co unse lor s in 2002. Semerod has worked as a psychotherapist with individuals, couples, and families in the Schuylkill County community for over 25 years and as a deputy administrator at the Schuylkill County MH/DS for over 15 years. Prior to that time, Semerod was employed as the Program Administrator of the Mental Health Unit at the State Correctional Institute (SCI) at Frackville, PA. providing supervision and therapeutic inpatient services.
